Vegas

We went to Vegas for the weekend. Steve got pulled over for speeding on the way up and only got a warning. Only Steve! We had fun just relaxing, swimming and eating German food. Hofbrauhaus is officially my favorite restaurant of all time.

Memorial Day Weekend

I didn’t take any pictures this weekend because I was too busy eating, drinking and enjoying myself. However, Bess took a lot of pictures and will hopfully share them and I can post them.

We had a fun weekend. On Saturday morning, I volutneered at a leukemia fundraiser. That afternoon Bess and Tom arrived after driving and camping their way here from Kansas City. We had a fun evening playing trivia pursuit and Oh Heck.

Sunday we had a pool party complete with a slip n’ slide, water balloon fight and s’mores. David Gross was a real sport when the kids attacked him during the water balloon fight and when he took one in his manhood.

On Monday, I rounded out the weekend with having breakfast revolt on me but after I got it out of my system, Nolan and I went to another pool party and Steve went golfing.

I think the best part of the weekend was having two Aunties here for Nolan becuase they got up with him and fed him breakfast while Steve and I got to sleep in.

Puerto Penasco

Got home from Puerto Penasco, Mexico (aka Rocky Point to us gringos). It’s about a three and a half hour drive from our house and it is our closest beach. It’s not tourist season right now so we had several places to ourselves including the indoor pool. The beachside cabanas and poolside bed cabanas were easy to get but that also means the beverage service was quick. Good thing I like tequila. Only bad part was that we were on a private beach so there weren’t people trying to sell us stuff, not to worry, I did manage to get some silver.

We came back tonight because we have a busy weekend.

On a side note, we know that there are travel advisories to Mexico but we we had a wonderful trip with the only delay being crossing back into the US but that was maybe 5 minutes. The exchange rate on the peso is pretty good right now (13-1) so it’s a good time to go.

Celebration of Life

I was finally invited to my first “Celebration of Life” put on by the Banner Good Sam’s bone marrow transplant group. You have to be one year post transplant to get invited. Sadly, we did not see as many familiar faces as we would have liked too because we met so many people who didn’t make it.

I was lucky to sit with a woman who was 11 1/2 years post transplant. She had been diagnosed with CLL when her son was just 18 months old. Her transplant was done mostly experimental because it wasn’t a common procedure back then and it was really her last resort (she had been sick for several years at that point). Needless to say she is still here today and her son is now 24.

Nolan got to meet some of the doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners for the first time. He played shy at first but then was giving hugs and kisses left and right.

The Celebration of Life was at the Phx Art Museum so after we were able to view the Art. It’s a little to modern for me but they did have a nice Ansel Adams exhibit. Near the Art Museum is a park dedicated to cancer survivors which also has a geocache. Guess who found it? We left my orange ribbon charm and an orange bracelet.

Viva Mexico

Having a good time in Rocky Point. I am sitting in lobby of our resort listening to some bad roke (a little bad “Friends in Low Places” anyone?). We have had a fun time at the beach and the pool. Nolan is getting braver in the pool especially when he see’s all the other kids swimming. I have become the old lady at the beach. The one wearing her giant sunglasses and floppy hat, with SPF 70 on and covered up with her towels! We also hit up the pharmacia and I was able to get one of my bleaching creams for less than 50 bucks and it costs me about 120 at home but most of the rest of the fun stuff I take requires a Mexcian prescription.

Steve is going golfing tommorow and Nolan and I will probably be at the pool.

Heading home on Thursday.

Friday is the Celebration of Life for Banner Good Sam transplant survivors. It’s my first one because you have to be over a year out to get invited so I guess that makes me a survivor.

Back to my vaction, I think it’s me turn to sing.

Someone Switched my Ambien for a NoDoze

I guess only the serious bloggers are up at 3:30am and then there’s me. Hampered by another night in which my sleepy drugs aren’t working. I feel like a doll that when you lay it down it’s eyes close but insead with me, my brain turns on. But enough about me, for now.

As expected Easter Weekend was very busy and as it warms up that can be expected for the next few months.

On Monday Nolan and I went to the Diamondbacks home opener with my parents. It was not only our first homeopener (ever) but the first time we rode the light rail to a game. The train was pretty full but Nolan got to look out the window most of the trip so he was very happy.

Yesterday was particiapted in our community garage sale. A today (Sunday) plan on church and golf (for Steve), swimming for Nolan and a BBQ. Should be fun.

AS for my health, I am feeling so-so. My allergies are really bothering me and I have devolped some burning sensation in both feel and pain in the heals. I have complained of leg pain for some time so my doctor thinks this could be nerve damage caused by chemo drugs. I am taking a few supplements right now to see if this will help with this small but very annoying problem

Free Picture

As you know, Steve and I are always looking for a good deal. Any thing from dented cans to clipping coupons, we are on it. So, when the Bass Pro Shop had a free photo with the Easter Bunny how could we resist? We couldn’t.

We have a very busy weekend coming up. Saturday is t-ball, an Easter Egg Hunt and we are going to see the Dragon Movie. Sunday is church, brunch, and then a pot luck. Monday we are going to D-back’s opening day and riding the light rail to and from the game. So if you don’t hear from us over the next few days, Happy Easter!

Fire Station Fun

We tried to have a lazy weekend but with a 4 year old that is just not possible. Fish Friday was protested when I offered a menu of Tuna Helper. Saturday we were invited to tour a fire station by Nolan’s friend Katie becuase her Dad works there. Garrett came along as well and we had a good time looking at all the trucks and learning about the daily life of a fireman.

Also on Saturday, I made grape preserves. So on Sunday I whipped up some buttermilk biscuts from scratch to test out the preserves. After breakfast, we headed to church. After church my stomach was upset and I puked. The last time I puked was last Saturday when I made buttermilk waffles. So, we have now determined that the slight milk allergy I have is to buttermilk.

Despite the wonderful weather and great fun we are having I am a little depressed right now. Two years ago we were dealing the leukemia diagnosis and what was to come. The loss of a child weighs heavy on anyone and that is my greatest struggle. I need to find inner peace.
