Upromise

I hope you have heard of Upromise, it is a simple way to have friends and family help someone save for college without asking them to give you money or do anything really different. If you are helping Nolan, Thank You!

If you haven’t heard about it, I will try a brief overview.

First, you need to register and link up with the person you are trying to help. To do that you can have us send you an invitation link, which makes everything happen in one step. Or you can go to www.upromise.com and sign up your account first, and then build the link with Nolan in the second step. Either way you need to e-mail Steve or Mandy to get the link.

Once you are signed up, then you need to do a few things to build the ways you can save. The ways you can help are as follows;

1. Register Grocery shopping cards, like Kroger/Fry’s/Dillion’s or Safeway/Von’s and even CVS and Albertsons. Once you have registered your card then you are done. Any time you buy certain brands of products you save a few cents.

2. Sign-up for a Upromise Credit Card. This is a 1% rewards card that deposits that 1% into your Upromise account every month. It also has bonuses for things you buy in step one and charge on your card in step two. Honestly, I used this for a while but many other credit cards have 2% options that they give back to you, so I have switched over to that.

3. Register the existing Credit Cards you have with Upromise. This does not have to be the Upromise Credit Card, and it is just as easy as step one, but it is hard to remember to come back and update when you get a new number. This allows you to have some of the places you shop at with your Credit Card make a percentage contribution based on what you buy. There are A LOT of restaurants that participate in this and a few other brick and mortar stores.

4. Sign up for online coupons. After you have registered your shopper cards in step 1, you can add coupons to your account. These coupons are a bit different because you don’t have to cut them or print them. If there is a $0.50 Coke coupon for instance, and your account registers you bought Coke. Then Coke makes a $0.50 donation to your account. You stil can use any coupons in the store for the items, so it is almost a double coupon deal.

5. Finally the big one if you buy a lot of items online. Upromise has a number of online shopping links that will give back 1-34% or a one time bonus of up to $50 just for buying something online. To get the deal you need to install a toolbar on your computer to get the special promotion or you need to click the shopping link from your account. Even if you don’t have a Upromise account you can use our guest shopping link.
